Plan It Wild on the Mic: Talking Rewilding on Growing Greener
We’re used to showing what rewilding looks like in backyards and community spaces. But this time, we got to talk about it. Plan It Wild joined Tom Christopher on a recent podcast episode, and it was a chance to step back from planting lists and project schedules to share the bigger story of why we do this work. You can listen to the full conversation here on Spotify.
The conversation touched on why lawns matter more than most people realize. They cover millions of acres across the U.S., and while they look tidy, they offer very little to wildlife or the environment. By trading even a fraction of that lawn for native wildflowers, shrubs, or trees, we can bring biodiversity back to neighborhoods while also making our landscapes more resilient to flooding, heat, and drought.
We also shared stories from the Less Lawn, More Life Challenge, where homeowners are experimenting with meadow patches, pollinator gardens, and creative ways to shrink their lawns. The podcast gave us a chance to show how this is not just about ecology, it’s also about community.
Being part of this episode was a reminder that people are ready for a different vision of what a yard can be. Less lawn does not mean less beauty. It means more life, more color, and more purpose woven into our everyday spaces.
