Meadow Street Pocket Forest
One of the Largest Pocket Forests in New England
In 2025, Plan it Wild designed and planted a Pocket Forest on an abandoned basketball court in Norwalk, Connecticut. We had been exploring how to reforest the fragmented and small open spaces of suburbia and its urban centers. We discovered what’s called the Miyawaki methodology, which recommends dense tree and shrub plantings that grow rapidly and can establish themselves quickly in developed areas, keeping maintenance requirements at a minimum. This project was done in partnership with the Norwalk Land Trust and the Norwalk River Watershed Association.
